i have the physique of a heavy reader...

Imprisoned by four walls
(to the North, the crystal of non-knowledge
a landscape to be invented
to the South, reflective memory
to the East, the mirror
to the West, stone and the song of silence)
I wrote messages, but received no reply.
-Octavio Paz

I got really into john fahey last summer and six organs of admittance and my summer project was to learn a bunch of their songs... turned out this more difficult than i thought it would be and only learned 3 fahey songs and 4 six organs of admittance songs. Anyway, I really like listening to ragas or circular classical guitar while I read, dont ask me why I just do. Only by approaching the subject from some distance and, initially, foregoing any view of the
whole, can the mind be led, through a more or less ascetic apprenticeship, to the position of
strength from which it is possible to take in the whole panorama and yet remain in control of
oneself...

It’s not that what is past casts light on what is present, or what is present its light on what is
past; rather, image is that wherein what has been comes together in a flash with the now to
form a constellation. In other words: image is dialectics at a standstill....
-Walter Benjamin

All library images from google image search for 'beautiful library', go figure....

  1. it has been my lifelong dream to one day own a house large enough to house a library. If that is not possible I may just forgo one of the usual rooms and install a library instead (obviously not kitchen or bathroom...bedroom? living room?)

also, I am surprised that you missed one of my favourites...and so close to home...the Library of Parliament
